A portion of the proceeds from the Living Treasures Travel guides will be used to support animal rescue organizations including the newly formed Peaceful Path Society. For some background … I ran a rescue group, Casa de Critters, and one day while I was at the pound choosing fosters, an elderly lady came into the shelter with Andy. She was crying and in obvious distress because she was being forced into a nursing home by her daughter who was also forcing her to leave Andy. In those days, he would have been euthanized immediately since he was an owner surrender. I told her I would take him – I really didn’t think he had long to live anyway. He was 14 years old and overweight. Well, Andy had a will to live, and I had him 4 more years after that! My one regret though was that I did not get the lady’s name or the name of the nursing home. I often thought how much peace of mind it would have given her to get updates and to maybe even have the chance to see him for visits.
Thus the mission of the Peaceful Path Society is to preserve the bond between people and their pets thereby giving peace to both. We accomplish this goal by creating unique adoption arrangements whereby the adopter agrees to stay in contact with the previous pet parent. Those contacts may look different depending on the situation – from texts and photos to visits. We seek adopters that are willing to maintain this relationship until such time as either the pet or the former pet parent passes away. We accept dogs & cats into the program on a case-by-case basis as space allows. We recognize that true peace comes from a relationship with Jesus Christ and that our companion animals are a blessing from Him.
